Every colour is reflected in the desert. It's hard not to be impressed by nature's palette. This scene is painted from memory of a drive through Broken Hill, face pressed against the car window until we stopped to stand outside and drink in the landscape.
Motivated by both the environment and the wellbeing it inspires, my paintings depict the the natural world and its ability to evoke a sense of emotional stability and well-being. My artworks are snapshots of those ephemeral moments of light that change so quickly from one moment to the next.

‘Suffuse’, a new exhibition at The Hive Gallery, combines the flair of both paint and ceramics to provide an interlude that is both exquisitely beautiful and heady with a love of their surrounds.
Bathed in light, Jane Millington’s finely detailed and wonderfully executed paintings play softly with the highly skilled glazing, strength of form, yet delicacy of Sophia Legoe’s unique ceramics.
Both artists gain inspiration from the natural environment and changing light of day, and have collaborated to create a stunning, tranquil exhibition that will suffuse you in its beauty.

This exhibition includes two styles of my work. The first focuses on soft blending to create the liquid undulations of the ocean. The second is more linear, using strong lines that run off the canvas edge to create a sense of boundlessness. Freeform and curved lines lead through both these styles, communicating the flow and direction of both the water and our emotional response to it.

Jane’s works are characterised by rhythmic, fluid mark-making techniques and meticulous layers of glazed brushwork, resulting in the feeling that the viewer is standing at the water’s edge. Her scale ranges from small vignettes to atmospheric, endless seascapes.
